Deadly bombs strike Boston Marathon; authorities discover more bombs

http://www.cnn.com/2013/04/15/us/bos...ons/?hpt=us_c1

Quote:
(CNN) -- Two bombs struck near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Monday, killing two people and injuring at least 28.

The explosions sent smoke billowing into the air at Copley Square, turning a site of celebration into a mess of destruction.

"It felt like a huge cannon," a witness told CNN about one of the blasts.

Authorities in Boston have found other explosive devices that they were working to dismantle, a federal law enforcement source told CNN. The devices were "low flashpoint," and did not appear to have shrapnel inside them, the source said.

It was unclear who may have planted the bombs. There were no credible threats before the race, a state government official said.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Lenox Hotel was evacuated, the Boston Globe reported, as authorities looked into possible security concerns.

Massachusetts General Hospital said it was treating 19 injured people, six of them in critical condition. Tufts Medical Center reported that it was treating nine people. Combined, that brings the number of injured to at least 28. Police reported 22 people injured.

I am also deeply saddened by how many (on social networks) are already using this for political statements before all the facts are even in...

I did post my thoughts (on Facebook) about some of the photographers in the initial video clips released.

Quote:
To the photographers (in the video clips) who took their cameras away from their faces and ran to help, you have my deepest respect. To those who ran forward to keep on shooting, shame on you.

A very sad day for Boston but also for all of us. My prayers go to the victims and families. There is no doubt in my mind that it is a terrorist attack.

Just a thought on those who ran forward with their camera to keep shooting...
Is it possible that some of those folks thought it more important to accurately document events in spite of the risk to themselves?

I never saw the footage you speak of. But I do know of instances where people put themselves in harms way to photograph or video events as accurately as possible.
No doubt, there were probably photogs there who were going for the pain and suffering angle to sell their photos but then again, they couldn't sell them if there were no buyers. And there would be no buyers if the public weren't willing participants.

The V7N Community will not be sharing links to graphic images of the devastation in Boston.

Sad to hear about this incident. I hope they could bring justice to the families of the injured and to the people who died.

It was hard to comment on this yesterday as it is so upsetting and annoying on how some always have to ruin good things.

What I don't understand is what kind of person it takes to do this to innocent by-standers. The inhumanity that is practiced in a time of war can be reasoned away as a necessary evil. Doing this on the fly to total strangers for no apparent reason, I just can not understand.

The people that commit these atrocities reason it as they generally consider themselves at war, whether it be with America, Democracy, Capitalism, Religion or whatever this is their way of justifying it.

One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.

This is true.

Though what I find strange is that in modern history, I don't think there is a single example of where terrorist acts actually got people what they wanted. It usually strengthens peoples resolve against such groups. And if whoever did this, did it only to be acknowledged.. I think they will be acknowledged alright, especially once they are caught.

From experience (in England anyway with previous IRA issues), once children start dying due to terrorist attacks, you really do turn the world against you.

Syria sends their condolences to Boston. I respect the fact that even though these sort of events are common in Syria they still have that caring aspect to send their condolences.
