Freedom Of Speech - Just Watch What You Say

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisf...i-boston/print

Quote:
"All of that stuff" - meaning every telephone conversation Americans have with one another on US soil, with or without a search warrant - "is being captured as we speak".
Quote:
all digital communications - meaning telephone calls, emails, online chats and the like - are automatically recorded and stored and accessible to the government after the fact. To describe that is to define what a ubiquitous, limitless Surveillance State is.
Quote:
Strangely, back in 2002 - when hysteria over the 9/11 attacks (and thus acquiescence to government power) was at its peak - the Pentagon's attempt to implement what it called the "Total Information Awareness" program (TIA) sparked so much public controversy that it had to be official scrapped. But it has been incrementally re-instituted - without the creepy (though honest) name and all-seeing-eye logo - with little controversy or even notice.
And with the way that communication and technology work together, they are also capturing communications from non-Americans, both inside and outside the USA's borders. It's unavoidable.

Once again our government makes Orwell look like a prophet. Welcome to 1984.
He only missed by 3 decades. Other than that, pretty much dead on.

For some of us, Orwell's book serves as a dire warning; for others, it's an instruction manual.

Yeah. Between that one and Animal Farm you get a great look at the state of the union.

The Internet is the only way for us all to connect and communicate with each other.
Our continued connection to and communication with each other is the single largest threat to tyranny.
That's why there has been (and will continue to be) such a large push to regulate and dominate the Internet.
TPTB know all too well that if we can continue to communicate with each other and receive information outside of the pre-approved main stream media message, then that will be their downfall.
