Google's Motorola May Give You Tattoo or Vitamin Password

Tattoos may become more than a body art statement in the near future. Last week at D11 by AllThingsD, Walter Mossberg interviewed Regina Dugan who heads special projects for Motorola (owned by Google Google). Ms. Dugan revealed a wearable tech tattoo on her forearm to replace entering your computer or smartphone password. The former DARPA head captivated the audience with her enthusiasm for innovation.

As it turns out, Google’s acquisition of Motorola may not have been all about patents or cell phones, but getting access to a long history of innovation and forward-thinking people. If you have wondered how Google plans to leverage its Motorola assets, the 35-minute video linked below is quite revealing and encouraging.

Ms. Dugan spent her time on stage talking about how Motorola’s team is aimed at solving long-standing problems for tech users — or at least small things that plague us in this modern world — password authentication. She explained that a power user might enter his or her password 100 times a day and an average user does “authentication 39 times a day.” That is, entering your password that many times each day to access your machines or devices. And it takes you 2.3 seconds each time you do.

The reason for viewing authentication as a “big problem” is because your smartphone carries a huge liability for your identity, if it gets stolen. Authentication to stop identity theft is part of what’s driving Motorola’s “Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP)” group to find easier ways to make your device accessible only to you. The wearable tech tattoo contains tiny sensors and an antenna to communicate with your gadgets and machines so are only operable when that password signal is present.

Whatever the application, this people have always a good reason to inplement their technology without regards for privacy.

What are your thoughts on this?
