TV is showing demonstration in San Fran already.....

Seems to be peaceful here...about 15 miles from Sanford....

The local interviews and statements, including both families, called for peaceful healing...
I will stay away from Sanford for a few days...)

Even the march in San Fran has appeared to remain peaceful.

So Florida isn't burning yet?

I surely hope the Feds won't try to make a case where there is none. Twisting the definition to try make a civil rights out of this would be travesty of justice.

I am sure that there will be a big push towards a federal investigation.....

This trial was forced by the demonstrations and political pressures....
Firing the police chief is one example of "knee jerk" reaction....

Time will tell....

(Re:burning...supposed to be 92 today)

Jim

You should know by now that Cricket turns on the heat when it gets down to 85 or so.

Do I think Zimmerman should have somehow been held accountable for the death of Trayvon? I have no clue, but here is the deal - the EVIDENCE did not support a conviction. In our society you don't have to prove your innocence. The prosecution has to PROVE your guilt. That simply did not happen.

All that being said, it is a shame Zimmerman ever got out of his SUV.

I'm also sad that in our society, Trayvon, didn't turn around and say, "Hello sir, can I help you? My name is Trayvon Martin and I'm staying with my father's girlfriend in that house right there."

Apparently, he was less than a football field away from where he was going. He could have run home. Instead, he somehow waited around 4 minutes deciding what to do.

It's too bad Trayvon's first thought wasn't the same as yours or mine - call the police himself when some guy is following you home.

That needs to change in the black community. What needs to be done so they feel equally protected instead of persecuted by law enforcement?

I used to drive a big, old, fast convertible and got profiled quite a bit in it. I was really polite when they pulled me over and every time, they sent me on my way.

I'm sure that I was a blonde, white woman in a business suit helped.

It begs to ask that if Travon had been wearing a pair of khakis and a button down if he'd be here today.

That being said, George should not have got out of the truck.

But do we completely set aside his desire to protect his neighborhood? My old neighborhood was revitalized primarily by the actions of the watch team. Crack houses, working girls, etc, were common in the mid-90's and now it's positively gentrified and the people complain if the grass gets over 12 inches.

Does part of the blame rest on a media culture that promotes gang-banger attitudes and attire as normal? Where physical prowess is of primary importance?

More chess, less rap. <sorry, that's probably not politically correct>

That being said, the only person who ever robbed me was a white guy in a golf shirt and a pair of khakis holding a tire iron. He broke my car window and stole my purse. I was 5 feet away on the other side of a 6 foot chain link fence.

<sigh>

Life is hard.

I do things to make sure people get an impression of me. Shouldn't we raise our children to "dress to impress". "Make a good first impression"

Is there a solution to this problem? Would a real solution put an end to division? Do people have a vested interest in keeping these things the way they are?

<double sigh>

Irregardless of the truth proven or actual this was a terrible tragedy. A young man lost his life and another is marred forever. My thoughts and prayers for the family until the point they try to turn this into a money machine.

IMO, there never should have been a trial as a result of public pressure. As Cricket said he surely wasn't proven guilty. Some suppressed evidence might have resulted in a quicker acquittal.

FWIW I initially wanted to hang Zimmerman up by his fruit loops and let him rot. I still don't like him or his wife and I cannot stand the friend that testified for him (based on interviews of him) but none of that matters because it all comes back to the EVIDENCE.

Scriptman is right. It's all a tragedy

Sadly it has played a role in one again dividing our nation.

Interesting questions.
This video may offer some answers or it may provoke more questions or do both...

Right now it feels as if the media is just continuing to add fuel to the fire. I don't know how they look at themselves in the mirror every day.

The whole thing is just very discouraging to me. If the dialogue thats revolved around this case represents the current norm for objectivity, intelligence, and honesty we're in big trouble.

Now have a look at this story. QUICK! Before it gets buried...

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/0...n_3597825.html

The difference between the two stories?

Trayvon divides people.
Temar unites people.

The Trayvon story goes on for months. The Temar story will be buried long before that.
