Man jailed over speaking out at Core Curriculum Meeting

A school district recently held a meeting to discuss common core.

Apparently you had to submit all questions in writing and the board was cherry picking the questions.

The man in the audience wanted to be heard and asked the question:

ďMy question is how does lowering educational standards prepare kids for ... college, because thatís what itís all about?Ē Small asked in a scene caught on videotape.

But audience members had been told to submit their questions first in writing, and when Small went off script, the police officer moved in. He was forcibly dragged out of the room, while exhorting the crowd to join his cause.

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/09/23...o-common-core/

He is facing $5000 in fines and a possible 10-year sentence.

Please watch the video before responding with your thoughts.

I was totally disgusted that the people there didn't stand up for him when he was trying to stand up for all their children. This was beyond wrong.

He could have avoided all that trouble if he had just cleared his question with his slave masters beforehand like everyone else.

"It was clear that Mr. Small violated the rules of the meeting and disrupted the meeting. It was also clear that the officer acted appropriately and did have probable cause to make an arrest on both charges," the state's attorney's office said in a statement. "In the interest of justice, further prosecution will not accomplish anything more. Therefore, the charges have been dismissed." http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/mar...,6741032.story
I am still deeply concerned about this...

<s>The guy needs to get with the standard mushroom program currently in effect in this country. Hopefully he has learned his lesson and won't depart from the script anymore. </s>

oh, wow! Regardless of what rules that meeting had, rules doesn't mean "the law". The worst it should happen for crossing some internal rules is to get kicked out of that place not into jail, unless you do cross the law too but for what i saw, that guy only said his question. Really, i can't believe i just saw that happening in the usa.

The first question is, why was the meeting labeled a town hall and a protocol set that no questions were allowed to be asked unless they had first been submitted in writing? A town hall meeting to my understanding is not an informational only meeting but an open forum meeting. I do realize that the current President controls every aspect of his so called town hall meetings and does not allow real questions...what have we been lowered to as a country??

The police report said Small had attempted to push the officer away, though in the video, Small is not seen doing anything that could be construed as assaulting the officer. The video did not capture the entire sequence.
This is a travesty to say the very least and a clear case of State Government and Police overstepping their authority and not thinking they have boundaries or have need to answer to the people they work for.

Every single person in that room rather than being afraid of the officer should have stood up and protested and if not listened to then simply left to show their disagreement

I'm glad they dropped the charges but don't appreciate how they mention that the officer had every right to make an arrest.

He wasn't driving under the influence, breaking into someone's home or even speeding.

It is deeply concerning.

I wonder if he'd be in jail facing prosecution if it weren't for the internet and a few news agencies shedding light on issues like this.

I have to wonder what we aren't hearing about....

Don't ask questions. Just do what you are told and everything will be fine.

Great advice. Thank you for lulling me into a state of compliance.

I feel so much better.

Quite a while back, I made a comment regarding the US, and that was - "America, the land of PERCEIVED freedom"

As time passes, it seems like that comment just keeps becoming more valid.

I mean, come on.. He was arrested for speaking his mind on bettering childrens education???.. Of course there is a protocol in place but the committee should understand that discussions like this could draw out a lot of emotions and should have taken that into consideration.

Committees do not make laws in this country....(not counting the idiots in Washington)

People have been arrested for speaking out for years....many are relaxing on the sunny beaches of Florida..
After the case was settled out of court...

Constitutional law based suits are immune from the sate laws that seek to limit local government liabilities...
