Google’s Schmidt: NSA Spying on Data Centers Is 'Outrageous'

Let's kick off Monday with this topic. lol

Quote:
The revelation that the NSA has been secretly spying on Google data centers worldwide doesn't sit well with the search giant.

In a video interview with The Wall Street Journal, Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt said the practice was "outrageous" and criticized the NSA's collection of Americans phone records.

"It's really outrageous that the National Security Agency was looking between the Google data centers, if that's true. The steps that the organization was willing to do without good judgment to pursue its mission and potentially violate people's privacy, it's not OK. It's just not OK."

I think this is all really just a case of technology moving way faster than government. Technology is being used for bad things by individuals, corporations, terrorists and governments. Having an approach that the NSA is all bad or all good doesn't work. We need smart people to get in there and lay out a framework. Instead we get a bunch of bickering from Congressmen that mostly don't understand it.

Funny that Schmidt is calling this "outrageous" when Google granted this access to the NSA voluntarily.

Of course, they are trying to deny it after the fact, when they got caught, but it's been going on with the blessing of Google for years.
This is just smoke.

Well, it's one thing for the government to spy on Google's users - Google's been willfully complicit in doing that. (That's good spying.)

It's quite another thing for the government to spy on Google itself. (That's bad spying.) Perhaps Google assumed that their cooperation with the feds was going to buy them some sort of immunity.

lol. . . talk about the kettle calling the pot black.

You know what I find most hopeful and at the same time most depressing about this? I think most of the American public gets the irony of this, (hope). But most aren't saying/doing anything about it, (depressing).

I live for the day when the American Public says enough is enough.

Sooner or later, it will happen. You can only push people so far before it's too far.
The question remaining is... Will it be too late at that point?

And some might say that spying on people is good spying, while spying on corporations is bad spying.
If anything, it should be the other way around.
Spying on people is bad. I believe that's in the US Constitution somewhere (the old version from before GWB and Obama wiped their butts with it).
