Thumbs up CVS Stops Selling Tobacco Products

What do you think of CVS's decision to stop selling tobacco products in its stores? http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/...A140RP20140205

Pharmacies can choose to sell or not sell whatever they like but...

A. They will lose a percentage of their yearly revenue if they stop selling a major product like that. (It has happened here already with pharmacy chains)
B. If they are going to stop selling cigarettes because of the health implications, they're going to have to stop selling a whole bunch of other stuff or be hypocrites.

Looks like they will need to increase liquor sales to offset the loss.

LOL!

And I agree with Zap - they'll be hypocrites unless they stop selling everything that's bad for you. The one I occasionally use sells wine, beer, potato chips, candy... I'm sure there's more, which I will probably notice next time I'm in there!

I have the same feeling as pretty much the majority of folks here. They'll either raise prices on alcohol or maybe even expand their liquor sales as much as possible.

They would be hard pressed to expand them here. The entire back page of the circular is always booze. Most times it is cheaper elsewhere.

At one time it was a gas station on every corner and now it is a drugstore.

They can replace tobacco sales with in-house medical services and reap a ton of profit....

Particularly those services that are covered by insurance....

And just when the profit is coming in, there will be the obamacare dipping its rancid tentacles into it.

I support their right to choose what will and will not be sold in their store. That being said, this is really starting to feel like a well planned PR move to bring a whole lot of attention to their company. If their reason was TRULY because they need to be more closely associated with good health then I would think they would also stop selling junk food and sugary drinks.

What I disagree 100% with is those talking about how this will reduce the number of people smoking. Ummmm.... how so? Smokers will just go next door to buy smokes.

Just go to walgreens across the street. lol

It's good that CVS is taking a stand against smokers and not allowing them to buy them in there stores now but they will lose business from the smoker's I suppose. They will make up the profit's loss eventually..

Me too!

But I also support my right to make fun of them for the way they did this.
