Would you wear this?

Just when you thought you’ve heard it all...

A senior government official with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has expressed great interest in a so-called safety bracelet that would serve as a stun device, similar to that of a police Taser®. According to this promotional video found at the Lamperd Less Lethal, Inc. website, the bracelet would be worn by all airline passengers.

This bracelet would:
  • take the place of an airline boarding pass
  • contain personal information about the traveler
  • be able to monitor the whereabouts of each passenger and his/her luggage
  • shock the wearer on command, completely immobilizing him/her for several minutes

That sound like an advanced dog training collar. I do not think it would be a fashion accessory for me.

NEVER

what is this way of thinking ?? because there is a pseudo-terrorist threat (i'm far from beeing convinced by the 9/11 wich is the main justification for all that security crazyness) we should all be considered like terrorist ?

well i got a solution point a gun on everybody's head to ensure nobody will do anything dangerous !!!

it's a shame to even think about making that !!

Mmmmm.

Shocks on demand you say? That has some interesting possibilities. Not on an airplane of course, but interesting in other situations. ;-)

Having worked with complex technological systems I'm aware of the likelihood of malfunction. Though small, simply wearing one of those electrode bracelets exposes you to risk of shock. Not to mention people tend to be quick on the trigger if someone yells "wolf."

This builds on the idea of immigrants and certain categories of criminals wearing tracking bracelets proposed some years ago. What's with this sudden medieval shackle fetish?

What are the odds of the technology working against us?

How easy would it be for a terrorist to gain access to or replicate the band control device? (Wow, things I never thought I'd type.)

Welcome to America, 21century style... where you're guilty before you've even thought about potentially committing a hypothetical crime.

This'll also make it REALLY obvious who the "plain clothes" air marshals are. They'll be the only people NOT wearing bracelets.

m42: Depends on what wireless band the signals are sent on... Anything in the infrared spectrum, or on the 700-1025 range, and people like me are gonna be tapping it from our laptops and generally having sadistic fun until people realise how dumb stuff like this is.
