I noticed a staffmember edited the users post for linking so I'm guessing the only purpose was blatant self promotion.

I agree that dedicated hosting is the way to go but you have to be a millionaire to afford it. The only option is dedicated server sharing with one or more other parties to split the cost but it can be rather challenging to find reliable partners.

I'm lucky in that I've known the person I share with for years so for us hosting on a dedicated server is a no brainer, it's certainly far more reliable than anything I've come across to date.

I would note though that all dedicated server companies are not created equal, you can certainly pay a fortune for crappy hosting there as well.

That is right. But at the same time the choice of the server is much more important and if you chose poor service you will have it even with the best dedicated server solution ever.
So if you are with the planet, rackspace, serverpoint or hostdime you have nothing to worry about and with even celeron you will have the best quality

godaddy has very good servers too... my personal experience. soon my server celebrates 1 year of being online. network has been down only a couple of times... maybe 5-6 times for not longer than a minute.

Actually I'm not with any of them yet I'm perfectly happy because I found a host with in house tech support that actually responds to tickets in an extremely timely manner.

They even pro-actively submit feedback requests via our support ticket system just to hear how we're doing as a customer. If my sites can stay online and quickly responsive then I may have found my last webhosting company (I hope).

As I stated previously however, dedicated servers IMHO are the way to go but they typically do not come cheap. If you can partner up with a few trusted webmasters and share a server you'll have all the reliability at a fraction of the cost.

Actually I noticed a lot of people who will come in and get the cheapest P4, or ATOM server, and when the servers hardware does not live up to the expectations of running a very high traffic site they go and blame the network or company not providing a good service. So i would not really say even a celeron would be good at those companies, you still need to match the hardware with what your going to be doing with the site.
