Dedicated server is needed for big websites only because they need good stuff for their sites, if you need dedicated sever for small sites, you can use but you are going to waste your money only, no improvements are there for small sites if you use dedicated serve.......

All of these posts made great points. A dedicated server will grant you access to all of the power and resources available on that server. A shared server may serve your purpose, but sometimes your resources on that server may become unavailable for different reasons that you can not control. If you don't need to deliver a lot of media than there maybe other options.
