Can any help?

Hi,

Im sorry if this is the wrong section but you guys seem to know what your talking about from the posts i have read.

Myself and 5 of my friends have bought a dedicated server for gaming. We also are able to host our website (yet to be completed) and forums on it. I have a free forum running at the moment so domain names etc have not been something i have had to worry about. But now we have found the domain name we want, and once the server is online, to link the domain name to the website and forums hosted on the dedicated server. My only problem is I have NO clue what i am supposed to do lol. If anyone knows any greatly detailed tutorials for a newbie, or has some advise. It would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you once again

No offense but it doesn't sound like you should have your own server. Security is a HUGE issue with servers you need to keep all the software up to date and patch all vulnerabilitis ASAP.

Before we get started with the help we need more information.

What kind of server? Linux or Winows or ?
Does it have any 'control panel' add-on? (cpanel, helm, plesk, etc)
Do you know your servers name servers? (Your server provider gave them to you probably in e-mail.)

Im sorry i think i mis wrote the previous post.

We are paying a fee for our own dedi server from a company (yearly fee)

It will be running our counter strike source servers, but also has space for us to host our website and forums. The company looks after all the patching etc. It will be running Linux OS.

All i am looking for is a bit of advise on linking our domain name to where we have stored the web/forum on the server.

When you buy a domain, make sure that you buy it somewhere where they give you access to your owner panel, from there you can set the so called name servers, that is the name, or ip addresses where your site is hosted. Usually it's something like ns1.hostserver.net and ns2.hostserver.net.
