Question Please help me with my HOME hosted dedicated server for Counter strike.

Hello. I have a DSL internet connection that has a built in router. I share the connection with my brother and when I creat a dedicated server it only allows me and him to join.. I did some research and I have to port forward. But the thing is I don't know how. I know about putting in your ip address in the internet address bar and I know my username/password. If anyone could guide me threw this, I would greatly appreciate it AND I would give full access to the server(No immunity). It is a 32 person server. Its run on a AMD Athlon 2800+, 1 gig ram, 128mb graphic card and a 256k internet connection.

You need to get "into" the router to setup port forwarding.
The problem may be your router doesn't support this or doesn't have software that supports it is more like it.

Search for your 'router name' on the internet with port forwarding after it... maybe there's a how-to already out there?

WHat router?

Easiest way to get the router address (assuming your on a pc).

Start > Run > CMD

Then type: ipconfig /all

The Gateway Address is the Router address (generally). Write that and your IP address down.

Stick the IP address in the browser and hopefully it will give you a control panel, throw the username and password in (should be in manual, if not try admin / admin).

Look in the control panel for port forwarding / virtual servers and click on it.

In there you will get a box asking for the external port, the internal port and the IP you want to forward the port to.

Put your IP in the IP box and the port to forward in the other boxes. It may ask if you want UDP or TCP ports, just select both its easier.

If you dont know the port you will have to search the web for it, I have no idea what it is.

If you cant figure it out you maybe able to find an option in the control panel with DMZ written next to it. If you point that at your machine you will have full access to everything from the web so make sure you have a local firewall on the machine you set as the DMZ....

If you get stuck im sure myself or someone else will be able to help you...

ok, after a bit of digging around, I have found a page that will tell you how to set up your Speedstream 6520 for counterstrike to work.

http://www.portforward.com/english/r...ter_Strike.htm

I hope that works for ya!

Oh, and in CS console, you will need to enter sv_lan 0 to allow internet players to join.
