I need advice and info on dedicated servers

In the coming months, I will be launching a much anticipated project of mine that I believe will generate a lot of interest.

I have never dealt with dedicated servers before and I know for sure that my Godaddy Hosting plan will not be able to handle the visitor influx.

Where do I start and what do I need to know about dedicated servers?

What recommendations do you have for me as far as web hosts/equipment?

Thanks in advance.

You might want to consider going with a managed dedicated server.

Dedicated server will allow you complete authority to control and administer your server, it gives you freedom to install scripts, softwares or applications that you want to use and it reduces your dependancy on the web host.
You should go for Managed hosting coz here you need little or no technical skills as the system administration and maintenance is delegated to professional staff. Managed hosting not only benefits a client’s IT department, but brings time, cost, and resource savings to the whole company.

Colocation is liked by many
If you have the money, I'd suggest colocation over dedicated server and colocate it locally. It's better in the long run, but dedicated server is fine if you are on a budget.
