What do you look for in a dedicated server package

So, as the subject says, what's important to you when you decide to get a dedicated server?

Price?
Performance?
Great support?
Add-ons, like Softaculous?
Coupons/promotions?
Other things not mentioned here?

What would be the top three things you look for?

I would give top 3 preference to the following:-

#Great support
#Price
#Performance

There are certain reputed hosting companies like Site5, [removed], VPSHostingDeal who are leading with such type of quality preferences.

1. Performance of Network and Hardware Specifications
2. Reliability/Stability
3. Support
4. Price

Really if the server sucks the price doesn't matter. That's why the price is the last thing. to look at.

I do consider performance as well as price followed up by support. Also the relaiblity of the comapny too is considred. If you are planning to go for a Dedicated Server, go for a stable firm. I prefer 1and1 or hostgator (with hostgator, you can get 25% discount with VIPCROCADILE coupon code). Also LunarPages not bad as they had being in the industry for sometime..

Exactly. The price of a host should be last on your list. You should have performance, and reliability in mind first.

I have a contract with iWeb for my company servers. Excellent support, extremely reliable, and affordable.

You must of course first make sure you are choosing a server that is going to meet or exceed your needs, then the rest is a personal choice. With dedicated servers I primarily care about reliability and price because support should not be needed much. Dedicated servers are usually unmanaged and unless you are experiencing issues that are outside your access area (very rare) then everything is up to you and your staff (if there is staff in the picture).

I have over 100 servers, and a pretty hefty contract, with my data center. With this being said I get extremely good pricing. I would not have gone with iWeb if I was not confident in their ability to serve my needs.

There are 3 very important things: a) The web host to use a quality hardware (hard drives and other components); b) to have a very stable network; c) to follow procedures and communicate them well with the customers.

Dedicated hosts must not make unrealistic promises on bandwidth and should not sell cheap. Otherwise clients might end up experiencing issues.

We see people always going for the lowest price which is scary. It really depends on the app(s) being served on the machine, the concurrent users, memory needs, and disk IOPS. Also management helps depending on your requirements.

for me personally I would look for;

If I even intend to buy a dedicated server. My top 3 priorities would be:
#1: Performance
#2: Performance
#3: Performance
#4: Fully managed services

Price and support will come in 5th and 6th position.

These days my biggest concern is hardware quality. I want an enterprise-ready server, good RAID card, good RAM, etc. Not something built with scrap components that may fail.

Something that most people forget is to look for IPMI/KVM to be able to manage your server in case anything goes haywire.

Then comes price and support.
