greetings from the new member here.
Now for the good AND bad news..
Good news.. I have often dis-agreed with the people over at Ev1, even WHEN I worked for them and I can prove that.
Bad news.. I will be the first to say they are not as bad as you make them out to be since no 1 company can ever be 100 %.
Am I going to defend them for the issue you had? NOPE... am I going to take sides with you? NOPE.. why you might be asking yourself is this person even posting.
I will tell you why, I will conceed that you did go thru the cancellation process the 1st time. However did you read everything, including the part about "an email with the confirmation # will be sent to your email address on file" (or something to that effect)?
If YES and that email NEVER showed up, then either their server glitched, which is possible and you should have re-submitted the cancellation order, or the process never happened correctly.
I had a server there for a while, when I cancelled it, I did their required song and dance, got the email, PRINTED said email and never had an issue with them again.
You have pointed out that you have no proof of the cancellation, yet that proof is emailed to you, so either the process never was done, or was not done correcly, or the email was sent to a bogus email address or one you forgot you used and there is/was the email residing in it waiting to be read.
I will vouch for Mario... you provide him with a cancellation # showing that you cancelled on DD/MM/YY and he will be happy to fix your problem.

Starpoint, if it's such a great company why are you no longer working for them?

sorry about that but the thread was unlocked and I just recently stumbled across your forums.
Fact is that every hosting company has good and bad.. they cannot do everything you ask but they will do as much as they can if asked nicely and you in return give them info they need to assist you.

Starpoint, sorry to have missed your posts.
Every company does make mistakes. When we were running V7 Inc, we made mistakes. But if you go back and read the forums, you will never ever see a client who had an issue and demanded a refund and didn't get it. We have refunded annual payments and given hosting to free to clients when they were improperly billed.
Bottom line is, we saw the ethics of EV1 in this thread - and their ehics were "screw the customer, keep the money".

JohnScott,
its really sad to see businesses like the such of RackShack screwing people over and not issueing refunds
Infact, about 18mths ago i was using goodydomains.com for simple webhosting, to which numerous times i asked them to cancel my account, they wouldnt reply
kept billing me for 3mths till i finally realised
tried to contact them, still didnt do anything
in the end i went to my bank and had to dispute the fee's
On another note, i now have a dedicated server with layeredtech in which, is being canceled on the 6th with IMMEDIATE disconnection, i have already called my bank and put a block on these monkeys from billing me (yep im 1 step ahead)
Im a uni student, i dont have much to spend on a dedicated server, atm im paying $79 USD for an amd 2500+, 512mb ram, 80gb hdd, 1000gb data with direct admin.
Is it possible for you to steer me in the right direction for a similar plan, im willing to spend upto $90 USD for a server which will allow irc related processes, BNC's to be more specific, will also need, at the request of me, some extra ip's of no charge
I gather its a difficult thing to find, but im relatively new to the whole dedicated scene so im sure one of you nice fellas are willing to point me in the right direction
Regards,
Adam

Sounds like you got got in the all-too-common "impossible to cancel" scam. Many online companies pad their wallets by simply refusing to acknowledge an account cancellation. I believe AOL even got hit with a Federal lawsuit for doing that.
EV1 obviously does it, too.

Please provide a domain name so that we may look into this issue.
To clarify - Our terms of service clearly state that a person must cancel their subscription via their payment method, otherwise the account will not be cancelled. We do not cancel subscriptions for our customers for security reasons, and I am sure this individual was told this numerous times.
We do not provide refunds after the first 7-days of service, as our Terms of Service also points out.
Thank you for your time and sorry for any inconveniences we may have caused you.
