How do I install cURL on Windows?

I have installed and set up php 4.3.4 as CGI with Abyss web server (just testing the server out, can't wait to get back to Apache) on Windows XP Pro. I have already uncommented the php_curl.dll extension in the php.ini. I have downloaded the win32_Generic_7.11.0.zip file, unzipped the file and placed it in a root directory. My PHP is working fine but I can't get cURL to work with PHP. I have coppied many *.dll files to the \system32 directory. I have tried both the cURL SSL version and no-SSL version. I have installed OpenSSL too. OpenSSL is currently uninstalled. I have been searching the web for two days now with no answers that worked. Please help me learn how to install cURL. Any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated. Is there more to installing cURL than just unzipping and placing the cURL folder in a root directory?

Thank you,
SilverAdmin

Unfortunately, I have not tried cURL in the Win32 environment. However, the docs do state:

[code:1:882a097114] Microsoft command line style
----------------------------
Run the 'vcvars32.bat' file to get the proper environment variables
set, then run 'nmake vc' in the root dir.

The vcvars32.bat file is part of the Microsoft development
environment.

Also see here: http://www.phpbuilder.com/lists/php-...01051/0335.php
And the bottom of: http://manual.modernbill.com/adminhe...cURL_Setup.htm

Hope that helps.

Thank you SuburbanWolf, for the help. It did help me figure out that I'm missing several things. Still can't figure out install however. I do not have MSVC installed. Is it required? I see that the vcvars32.bat is related to MSVC. I also found out that I need an MSVC *.dll? Please help. I know very little coding. Should I install Microsoft Visuall C++? Then will I find the things I need? I will have no problems setting up cURL with PHP if I could just figure out the cURL install. I think the people at http://curl.haxx.se hate Win32 users and want to make their lives difficult. lol Why can't they make an install that installs the required *.dll files or at least has the required install files with it. It'd be nice if PHP came bundled with cURL. Now I'm getting sidetracked. Please help me install cURL. I'm an idiot.

Sorry.

Ok, I'll see if I can help further, provided you stop putting yourself down. Time & patience will get you the results you seek.

First, download this if you don't have it already, and virus scan it too, just in case: http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dl....shtml?msvcr70

Suffering from a cold today, so not on all eight cylinders, more soon, unless either another chips in, or you sort it beforehand.

Still having problems installing cURL

SuburbanWolf,

Once again thank you very much for the assistance. I have made sure that all required *.dll's are in the \system32 directory(I think?). Still nothing. The extension_dir in php.ini file reads like this (extension_dir = e:\php\extensions) and the windows extension is uncommented and looks like this (extension=php_curl.dll). However, when I look at the PHP info here it does not show anything about cURL being enabled or disabled. Perhaps there is something missing from my php.ini file? Going on 3 days with this problem, I'll have to throw a party to celebrate this accomplishment. hehe I'm still curious on the cURL install? Once again, all I've done with the cURL *.zip is unzip the file to a root directory. Nothing has been done with the environment variables. Does PHP require the cURL.exe?

Thank you,
SilverAdmin

P.S.
No longer using PHP as a CGI. It is being used as a module now and seems much better.
