dedicaated server
dedicated server :
hi!
i've researched a few of the companies that offers dedicated servers. and i've come up with the list below:
01) servepath.com/servers/windows_server.htm
02) rackmine.com/det_1.asp?pt=w&pkid=54
03) serverbeach.com
04) rackspace.com
05) servermatrix.com
06)theplanet.com/solutions/totalcontrol.php
i need your suggestion as to which dedicated servers is top of the line.
i prefer a managed dedicated server, an ip that offers more at least 20 ip's, can handle at least 20domains, windows2003 web edition-enterprise is better.
i have tabulated every specs that i need but would like to know your opinion based on your experiences on the above servers.
if you have other servers that you can suggest, that would be better. probably i'll purchase the server by monday or anytime next week.

Not sure I fully understand this. Why would you need 20 ip address's? You dont need an IP for every domain since IIS and apache can do name based hosting.

Oi...20 IP's for websites? IP addresses are no longer considered to be an inexhaustible resource.
Quote:
from another provider's employee
There really is no reason to have a dedicated IP address for a web site "just because". I know it used to be a selling point, and hosters thought they were all that because they had their very own IP address, but that is no longer the case. Just 5 years ago I was doing work for a company who had a spare class C and started spreading out all their websites across 200 IP addresses just because they could. They got a nasty surprise when they wanted more IP addresses though. All of the reasons for having a unique IP address for every web site have pretty much been nullified by advancing technology. The only surefire reasons for additional IP addresses are SSL and nameservers .. any other reason must be explained in detail and must be valid from a technical standpoint.
EDIT: If you look around at some of the older hosting companies who used to give away 8 or more IP addresses for every server, you might notice they are starting to change their policies. They are either reducing the number to 2 or 1, or requiring more strict justification. This is because they know they will run out of IP addresses soon and will have to ask for more.

Did you mean to say that or were you referring to dedicated IP addresses?
If you're referring to IP addresses:

Contrary to popular belief, IP addresses are not required for every application under the sun. Back in the heyday of the Internet, you weren't anyone unless you had your own IP addresses and lots of them. Times have changed and IP addresses are scarce compared to 5 years ago. Nearly all current Internet applications have the ability to operate on a single IP address via name-based hosting or using different ports. Game servers in particular can easily run on different ports, so you can run multiple instances on a single IP address.

The thing that's most bothering about seeing people horde tons of IP addresses (that are really not needed), is that it makes it that much harder for someone who legitimately needs it to get an extra one.

I see no one has commented on the SEO aspect of different IPs. I don't want to hijack this thread but it's worth a mention - there is a (somewhat speculative) argument that if you have a suite of interlinked websites, you might gain an advantage by having them on separate IPs. For further comments a separate thread might be in order.

chosen servermatrix
hi! guys
thanks for your help. i've finally chosen servermatrix. and so far we're doing great currently, i'm looking for another dedicated server, still managed but this time it should run on linux, RH9.0. as much as i wanted to get another account at servermatrix but i prefer to have from a different dedicated server company.
here's my list.
is web-coders.com any good?
austindev.com is killing me with their bandwidth add-ons.
cihost.net hhmmm their still gonna get back on me... i have a couple of
questions still.
and i've read a forum to check out bocacom.net, i think their good but its self-managed.
I definitely wanted a managed dedicated server running in RH9.0 Linux. And with at least 1000GB RAM, 80GB to 120GB space is good, accept nude pix on the pages, and did i say managed... and ip address will be at least 6 to 10.

1. They put a wrong(slower) CPU on my server.
2. They put a wrong(much smaller 128MB while I ordered 1GB) memory on my server.
(but I was billed for the configuration that never existed on my server)
3. Sales guy told me that I was getting refunded for this, yet I have not received any refund yet.
4. Tech supports are incompetent; they cannot get Tomcat working and they admitted.
5. They misconfigured the server and stopped my web server(Apache2). I notified it, but they never fixed the problem. I found out that the server was off-line for a period of time and "I" fixed the problem, since they did not fix it.
There are a few of problems I had with ServePath. I sent out about 100 emails in 6 weeks; this should tell you the quality of support they provide.
It just amazes me that they openly tell people that they provide 99.9% uptime and what have you.

I just signed up with ServerMatrix; however, it's been taking 3 days+ for them to set up a server. I still do not have any fully functional product from any host; the details are covered in this thread. I'm just not having good luck lately. Maybe this is karma. Maybe I did something bad lately ... Can't think of any such event though ...
