I need a good server OS (IIS) perferrably cheap and reliable

I am looking for a good server OS which I can use IIS to host my website.

Currently I'm using XP Pro and it is not a server OS. The windows 2003 server is too expensive for me.

Can anyone give me some advices?

I need something that can host multiple websites with no connection limits and secure.

Thanks.

Because I already have a website written in ASP. IIS supports ASP.

I do not have any experience with other web hosting software.

go with Windows Server 2003 Enterprise. its what we have on our webservers.

it is pricey, but well worth the cash. overall, extremely stable (ironic eh?) and minimizes resources used (who'd a thunk)

No, apache doesn't have internal support for ASP, you'll need to get some sort of third party software which provides the ASP engine. Even if you do, I'm not sure if it supports ASP completely let alone ASP.net.

Doesn't XP come with IIS 5.0? Maybe it's best to start small and grow as the need grows rather than starting off huge if you're on a budget.

If your a student you might be able to get a legit copy of windows 2K server or win 2k03 for somewhat low price.

XP does come with IIS and it works great. I would recomend using it to get started. Then if you have a second box, put linux on there and start learning apache. That way if you site gets big enough you will be able to switch over to Apache and have a web server that is stable and secure.
