Dedicated Servers
Do you guys know of any good dedicated server providers in the $100-$140/month range that accept paypal or other alternate forms of payment? I do not have a credit card or bank card, although I do have a checking account and paypal account.
I was going to go with Server Beach b/c you guys seem to recommend it so well, but they only accept credit cards and debit cards, which sucks. Also, don't tell me to apply for a credit card b/c I can't get one.

I have heard of a trick with paypal. Evidently you can apply for a paypal credit card that pulls money out of your regular paypal account. I never bothered with this cause I got enough CC's now as it is.
PS are you looking for managed or unmanaged. There is a big difference as far as what the datacenter is going to default provide as far as inital setup and ongoing support.
SB is a unmanaged provider in that they load the OS and give you the account info and then the rest of the server setup and daily server admin responsibilites are yours to manage. A managed provider would offer additional managment services on a daily/weekly/monthly type basis.

From the other forum I take it you have a site that you anticipate alot of traffic to. Or this is a site that already exits that gets alot of traffic.
Do you have any traffic estimates as far as number of uniques per day, and visits a day?
Is it a database driven site or mostly static html?

The site has been down for awhile b/c it jsut cost too much to keep up w/ the last host......and it went over on bandwidth, which cost a lot of money. Anyways, once we get it back up, it will have a lot of traffic...maybe not right at day one, but it should get back up to speed within a month or two.
I'm not really sure what that last part means.....
If I had the $$, I'd go with v7's managed dedicated servers, but I don't have that money yet. Once we got it back up and running and could get some money from advertising or something, then yea we could maybe afford it then...

Was it a site that ran with postnuke? was it mostly built with .php files or was it mostly .html style files?
What kind of bandwidth where you going thru prior to shutting it down?

No, it wasn't run on postnuke. I think it was mostly html, but there was some kind of php prog for users to submit news and stuff. I'm not really sure b/c I wasn't involved with it on a technical level at that time....
I'm not sure what the exact amount was.... it was over 250GB and under 500GB. We're going to be adding more downloads than we had before eventually...so that might increase traffic itself...
I'm probably not the one that should be looking into this, but since I'm putting out the money..I have to. As far as running the server though, I'll leave that up to the other guys who work the site w/ me....

You found a coupon code, or you put a coupon code out there? It's kind of obvious you are affiliated with them when you sign up with the URL as your homepage.

www.ServerMatrix.com for your dedicated server and my free how-to guides that walk you STEP BY STEP are great for dedicated server newbies www.HostingLife.com
I have been using ServerMatrix myself since Dec, and have gotten excellant support, and I push around 600gb a month through my server.
I run ~3-5 large sites and 20 or so smaller ones, and the server doesn't even have a load of 1 yet. I push around 100k mysql fed file downlaods per month maybe more too..
They answer their phone 24/7 any day of the year.. I talked to them this last Christmas actually.
I pay under $100 for what I get, and it's amazing!! Watch WHT or deals too.
