I don't recommend to host Tomcat with ServePath

I have not tried many host companies, so I cannot say how ServePath should be rated, but one thing that I can say for sure(unfortunately) is that ServePath is not the best place to host Tomcat. Quite frankly, sales representative(that I talked to) did not know about Tomcat; he simply did not know how to make a right order to enable Tomcat for customers. It's been taking 2 weeks+ since I initially requested to enable Tomcat for my server. Maybe they can handle other components such as PHP and Apache just Ok, but when it comes to Tomcat, they were unprepared.

I contacted one of sales representatives and asked about this problem a couple of hours ago; he said that the problem will be resolve within 24 hours, but I'll see ...

To be fair, I should make a couple of positive comments, right? It appears that there is a set of issues that they can handle fairly well but there is also a set of issues that they do not handle well, e.g. Tomcat. If you ask about an issue that they know, they can handle ok, and my guess is that they can handle common problems associated with php, apache configuration, email and so forth all right.

I have not heard too many horror stories, so maybe that's better than many hosts out there ...

Just get a server with serverbeach and make sure it has cpanel on it, then you will not need a managed server as cpanel make's it easy to manage yourself. Tomcat is also a easy install for cpanel.

A couple of questions:

q1. Did you run Tomcat yourself or you know this by hearing from other people using CPanel?

q2. If and when you have problems and questions with regard to Tomcat, how do tech supports at ServerBeach handle? Timeline, etc.

1. I run it on my server

2. I have never had a problem with it so I don't know how well server beach will do, but their tech support is good, Plus if you have cpanel on your server you can get help in their forums.

I just checked the support forum and searched for "tomcat". Unfortunately, this doesn't seem like a great place to look for help. For example, I read commends like the followings:
Quote:
"...

Check you tomcat logs. Sounds like a crashed JVM or an OutOfMemoryException (probably due to some customer's bad code).

If' I've said it once, I'll say it a thousand times, if you don't know how to troubleshoot Tomcat issues, do yourself a favor and not offer it as a service until you've spent PLENTY of time learning how Tomcat operates. If you don't, you'll give yourself nothing but headaches and lost sleep (not too mention plenty of pissed off customers). Tomcat requires far more knowledge than things like PHP and Perl when it comes to general maintenance and troubleshooting.

...

Both of those reasons, plus it requires servers with good horsepower and lots of memory. I would recommend at least 2 gig of ram. But snikn is correct, unless you are very knowledgeable in java I would also recommend passing this off. It could be more headache then the account is worth.
..."
How I got here: I had Plesk 5.x with the same host; I configured Tomcat manually and it worked well for about a year. I needed to get a new server, and I found that the host offers Plesk 7.x which has this Tomcat add-on, so my expectation was that it will work better and also I will get a better support from my host and Plesk(forum), but so far it appears that neither is true ...

Is there any host that is sure to provide good - great support for Tomcat? I am not exactly running a multi-million business, so the price needs to stay around an average dedicated host company though.
