dedICAted problems
hey i managed to get a dedicated up at my college, but only people inside the schools network can get in. And when others try to get in they can never connect. is there any way that i can get allow them to get in? i know that my school has a firewall that i can't personnaly take down without getting in trouble. so is there a way to get past it, if so..please tell me

If your college network gives you a static IP address then you can either use that to visit the site from off campus or you can setup DNS at someone like zoneedit.com to forward a domain to your IP. Of course every schools different as far as the AUP. I know at the college I work at students running servers off the campus network is stricly prohibited.

nope... the schools firewall has to send requests on special ports to that computer.. so without access to firewall, there is no way

yeah it is a static ip address but can you explain this to me in english cuz i'm sorta retarded at the moment. moral of today "don't do drugs"

they dont want you to use their internet to host servers, so you cant

um no
i have seen servers on my campus before...i have heard that they have been using the http port to get to a proXy server and then hosting the server through that.

yes so what if i do
but the only way that i do know how is to illegally take down the school firewaLl and i'm in no way dumb enough to try that stunt especially with only one week of classes left. but yes, i do know what risks i am taking but if other people have hosted and havent' been caught and are stilll doing it i think i'm alright
