Cost of dedicated server

Hi,

I need a dedicated server for my youtube clone script with ffmpeg. I have a tight budget of $50.

What should I do in such scenario.

Need suggestion of the experienced members of this forum.

What are your requriments? And I would recommend you ahve a look at VPS with your budget. That is the same as dedicated server

I've to agree with John. $50 does not let you go far in dedicated hosting. Try shared hosting instead, and you should be able to find good ones with that amount of money.

but will a good host be able to manage good traffic on youtube clone? Also all good host give a limited CPU usage and with youtube script how much CPU usage will I be required??

It seems that budget plays the main role for you. I think that it is little bit wrong way while you considering such big project like yours.
Reconsider your budget and go for the web hosting with good network and own facilities. I think that sologigabit.com's servers would be the ones that will be good for you.
But anyway you should reconsider your budget.
John is right - you will be able to get good web hosting for your budget, but at the same time irt would something shared and limited. And I'm sure that you project do not want to be limited

OK, I'm sorry but if you want to do video encoding, $50 is not going to cover 1/100th of the resources you need.

My company hosts a number of large video sharing websites, they all require numerous servers, clustered. One larger client we hosted had a dozen servers just for encoding videos.

Obviously you don't need that much for just starting out, but encoding video is a very processor intensive operation. To encode on the same server that serves webpages would result in huge slowdowns.

Get at least one web box and one encoding machine.

I can recommend you the only company I know that specializes in video streaming: HostV.com. FFMpeg module is included into their dedicated servers plans. Double RAM and disk space is also attractive features.

Serverpronto is under $50 but unmanaged. Not many dedicated hosts can offer under $50 with good service.

I see that HostV.com provides shared video scripts that might be useful for the OP. I see that they also provide Red5 module - guess this is connected with video streaming too, am I right?

I have seen that ServerPpoint.com offers Windows Media Player, RealAudio�/Video, Quicktime, MPEG, and others
(all via HTTP streaming) on their shared package plans. Maybe they'll be helpful for you.

I am looking for the exact same thing.
hostv.com seems good in pricing but is very tight on disk space and bandwidth.

Any other suggestions please ?

As already mentioned, a good VPS will be a good option for such a budget.

Dedicated cost more than the server.. you have to pay for an admin unless you know everything and have the time to maintain it. Monitoring service cost money, etc.

For 50/mo go VPS or QUALITY HOST!!

But the price for dedicated server depends on the time of its payback.

and it might be even less then hardware costs
