Interland vs. less expensive alternatives

I have been with Interland for almost four years, starting with a shared hosting plan and moving up through a few different dedicated servers as my website grew and my needs increased.

I have been very happy with Interland, but they definitely seem more expensive than other companies I hear about, like Server Matrix, where I can get a similar server for about $250 less, but with more monthly bandwidth.

What is the benefit, if any, to paying more at a company like Interland?

Some networks are more reliable than others. I would suspect that Interland has a super solid network in place with fewer instances of latency.

With that said its not like the Server Matrix network has much latency issues.

I belive the count is up to 12 1 gigabit backbone connections with 6 or 7 different providers.

Does interland offer server managment? Server Matrix is baisly an unmanaged host.

Interlands network is great. But I dont know how often you use the support system. Don't , being big they outsource and you'll never get anything done. Thats a price you pay though. Hard to find a dedicated server on a solid network that also give superb support. And support is a key for getting a dedicated server. You will have a problem, might be next week or in a year, but the chances your server will never need support is slim.

Only logic I see in paying $250 more and staying with Interland is security. You know big companies normally dont disappear next month. Since they have the money backing them, Full time employees. Are you sure about that business thats been around for 6 to 1 year?

You just have to factor in if that outweights your pocket.

I have been with Interland for many years. As a matter of fact I was with Hostpro.com for about 2 years before it was bought from Interland. The online support I agree that it is a little weak. I have only had 2 issues in the last 6 years and both were due to DNS issues that were tracked back to register.com.

Interland's phone support is much better than their online support. What I do is if I am not satisfied with the rep I am dealing with I typically call back to get another person on the phone to take care of it. The support is as good as the person answering the phone. Unfortunatly there could be times that a new employee or someone who is not that experienced can answer the phone. Eventually you will get a support person who knows what they are doing and get to the root of the problem immediatly.

Even when I read bad reviews about Interland mostly around pricing the reviews always include that they have a 99.8% uptime. I have had the same dilema about cost. But the comfort level cannot compare to the extra money I dish out every month.

oh, it wasnt a bad review, I was just showing people what to compare. Whats more important for your company or website, saving money, security, or just plain uptime. I'll advise to always do your reasearch before getting a dedicated server or switching providers.

I didnt mean to say there support is horrible, but I do expect more from what they are providing in present time.
