Looking for some recomendations on a dedicated server.

Hi all,

I am looking to get a dedicated server running RH (probably not fedora, not too sure about its stability in a server environment). Looking for a high bandwidth plan (lets say a floor of 100GB/mnth, though a lot of the plans I am looking at have 1000).

I have looked at some of the more managed sites like rackspace, but that really seems like a lot of money. Some of the more 'your on your own' sites (ev1, etc) are obviously a lot cheaper, but little to no support. I think I am looking for something in the middle, or to the lower end with pay per incident/ticket support.

I don't quite think I need the 'fanatical' support of rackspace, nor can I really afford it at this point. I am comfortable in linux, run RH for my web development purposes, know how to do what I need to do in httpd.conf and such, running up2date is pretty basic. However, should things go wrong, I need support, preferably in a timely manner. It would also be good to have a bit of a heads up when an applicable patch comes up.

I saw a ServerBeach ad on /. today, the site looks good, but how good is their support? Is it quick? What about in the middle of the night, weekends, etc? Some of the reviews on this forum seem to be favourable, but i have seen some negative comments...

Thoughts?
Recomendations for a dedicated host with support available?

Do a search for ServerBeach. They are good, but somewhat on the high end. This forum is hosted on ServerBeach, and we experience very, very few latency issues.

Stay away from EV1 / RackShack.
Stay away from CIHost.

The only other legitimate host I can recommend is ServerMatrix.

From personal experence I can tell you ServerMatrix has answered my support issues faster than ServerBeach. Both providers have a user forum where customers can seek support from fellow customers. SM is unique as compaired to SB in that their is almost always a paid SM staffer on the forums.

SM allows you to keep track of your monthly bandwidth usage online thru their Orbit system where as currently SB requires you to keep track of your own bandwidth usage.

The SM backbone IMO is more robust aswell. With at last count 11 or 12 gigabit connections to 5 or 6 different providers.

I'd check out Interquad.net ... they have great prices on unmanaged servers, but have managed plans with pricing I dont even attempt to offer.
