Adam, I've just downloaded the script for the link directory. I'll try to make it look like the blog, that is if anyone else doesn't come up with something else before me.
btw, I don't do designs in PhotoShop.

I downloaded the free version of phpld, which is 2 and I saw that you use the version 3 which you have to pay to have it, so my silly question is: Are there differences between version 2 and version 3 concerning the page layout? As I'll have to change the layout I need to know...

I just read over the differences and they are all management/ maintenance types of changes. I doesn't appear to have any differences in page layout. Thanks for asking.

Your right, an extra set of navigation buttons would look funny. I was thinking of other possibilities too.
Your entries look fun, your not too late, the contest is going to end Tue the 22nd evening, Tokyo time.

web directory:
- fixed layout (940px)
- top nav ; right nav
The top navigation is almost the same as the one used for the blog, only that here i've used an other background.
This is a "raw" version, because I'm still trying to figure out how to put all pieces together. (I have never created a template for phpld...)
ok, so what do you think, should I go on or should I stop?
@ Cricket: thank you
@ asiogroups: I like your idea, but get rid of that green as it's not blending right with all other colors.

I am going to extend the decision date to the 25th. I wanted to give a chance for a couple others to finish their designs.

Costin,
I like the layout on the top page. I am not sure I will need the extra navigation on the right side. It looks fairly complete with the buttons on the top. Nice blend of colors.
Is it possible to move the search window to the upper right or a place out of the way of the results, like on the current Za7 layout?
Is it possible to add the page description just above the blue separator bar? The description at the bottom of each page can go away, that's just the one for the top page only.
I like it a lot. Are you doing these changes in the php code?

Asiogroups,
I like what you have started with the buttons. Could you continue with the idea and match up some colors with it? Do you have any ideas about how the sub pages might look too, like the Arts category page for example?

I am looking for a great layout for my Za7 Directory and Blog! I currently have free templates on my directory and blog. I want to have an Unique layout that is attractive and professional. This is what I am starting with, and the blog is wordpress.
I want it to be/ have:
1- Unique- I want to own this design and I want it to stand out from other Directories.
2- Clean and easy to navigate- buttons for navigation across the top.
3- 2-3 colors- I like greens like this and Starbucks greens . Blues, Reds, and other main colors are highly desirable, please work your magic with the colors.
4- Simple Background with enough blank space like here and here. A background color that is anything but plain white. The Starbucks textured background is delicious, it makes me want a hot mocha in front of the fireplace. If you could just make a delicious background/ page that makes people want to submit to the directory, even better.
5- A Directory listing structure similar to v7n and Romow. I really like the Romow layout, clean, easy to read, nice text size. Fixed width. Something along these lines would be great.
6- A Clean Header with enough space to put a logo, something between this and this.
7-
I hope that helps.
I am offering $100 dollars, via Paypal to the winner. I need a Layout and page design for the Directory that I can use for the Blog too.
The contest will run until the 22th, thats a week! Let's see some fun designs!
Can't wait to see what the talented V7n'ers draw up...

Hi Costin,
I like the top page description where you put it at the top. I was also thinking of putting the descriptions for the category and detail pages above the lower blue/gray bar. Right above where it says: Regular Listings Sort by: PageRank etc etc.
I was also thinking about a place to put za7 blog snippets, just the most recent probably, and randomly highlight some directory listings. Whether it be on the right sidebar, left, or both is up to you.
I was asking about the code, because I was hoping to be able to learn it myself. I can make small changes, but I can't make major ones yet.
Looking good so far.
