The best SLR on the market today, in my opinion, is the Nikon D3. I've seen it in action and the results were mind blowing.

How much are you willing to pay? What format do you need 35mm or bigger? How large do you need your photos from DSLR 35mm to Digital back Phase One?

I use Nikon SLR and DSLR, but Canon is very good too.

Remember an expensive equipment will not make a good photographer Only a good photographer will make terrific photos

I think the Canon is very good if you just want to use it as a hobby.
I don't take too many pictures either, but I got a good deal on a Samsung S630.
I really liked the natural feel it gives. I liked it even more than the newer Samsungs.

The final decision will be up to you. I know that most cameras have previews online,
of what they can do. You might want to search some before making your decision.

Good luck!

Nikon is the best product for heavy duty, for mobility I recommended you to get a Sony cybershot that will cost you less then $300,the image out put is nice and easy to edited "inside the digital camera it self"

Canon is coming out with a D10 in a couple of months. Its water proof to 30 feet and freeze proof to around -15.

Besides the canon D10, take at look at the canon 590. The 590 uses AA batteries, so its easy to have some spares.

After those 2, take a look at the Canon Powershot SD790

In branded digital camera I'll go for Sony, I don't care the expensive price of Sony but it gives a best quality photo shot. By the way this is my Sony Digital Camera.

Best Digital Camera

I have to second Cricket's thoughts. Depends on your use, and your budget.

As for myself - I started with a Canon Powershot A640 (10.1 Megapixel) which has a flip around screen that makes it easy to shoot at funny angles. It took Wonderful pictures and is compact and makes a great second camera.

If you're looking for Digital SLR's - after alot of review reading I went with a Nikon D90 (because I still wanted a little bit of movie mode). The thing about digital SLR's is the Glass (lenses) can get expensive. The Nikon came with an 18-105mm (or you can get an 18-200) -lens. This is a pretty good wide angle to medium telephoto lens and covers alot of uses (everything from portraits to landscapes) and you can have alot of fun while you're saving for accessories.

I hope you find what you're looking for Read the reviews and please let us know what you finally ended up getting
