Canon is probably cheaper. I think you can't go wrong with either. Some people just prefer one to the other. Nothing wrong with both and they both do the same thing.

I've been using Nikon D5100 and quite happy with it. But I've used Canon EOS 51D once and found it better, though it's in higher range than D5100 so may be that's not a fair comparison!

I've not experimented much with lenses much though but I find the range of Canon lenses better than Nikon, though that's an opinion on a very small time I spent while purchasing Nikon.

My first camera was a Nikon D90. I changed to Canon because that's what most of my friends had but I've grown to prefer Canons.

Yeah, I think canon can be the best for photography, I use a Sony a65 for video, and the nikon I used I just didn't like at all. But good lighting will always win out I think

I've always used Canon myself. Nothing wrong with Nikon though but maybe I'm just more familiar with Canon models. They both have excellent cameras.

I started with Nikon coolpix p90, then upgraded to Canon 1000D and from Canon 100D to 550D.

All of them are good. Both are market leaders and well renowned brands. What you should compare is respective models of them. Nikon coolpix p90 is good for daylight but I had to upgrade to 550D for professional shoot. There is no specific reason for which I chose canon over nikon. However it is that Nikon additional colours to your pics while canon gives you more realistic feel.

I choose Canon, dslr and pocket camera. I think the factor to choose between Canon and Nikon for amateur like me, is the community. My friends that made me choose Canon, because the majority of them use Canon

The most important thing that we can share lenses, speedlight and body

I like fixed lenses so if i need 70-200 L series, i just need to borrow it...

I thought this topic might generate the usual us v. them flame wars ;^) but the conversations are quite reasonable. Perhaps that speaks to the quality of this forum?

Anyway, I started out with a hand-me-down Yashika but am now a die-hard Canon user. I love Canon glass. IMHO 'L' lenses are the best available.

The new low-light capabilities catch up with Nikon so the one thing that had me giving envious glances is no longer an issue.

I have two canon camera 650D and 5D Mark III. I am happy with that. I find the colors more true in Canon. My humble opinion

I'm a Nikon shooter. Got a D40 for a couple of years now, I thinks since 2007. It's basic but does the job. The reason I bought it, because I could get it back in the days for good price. Probably my next DSLR will be a Nikon again.

Interesting ... do you shoot RAW or JPG? What do you use for post processing?
