Sony RX100, is a great little camera, a few people i know have gone away from bulky SLR to these little beauties

You know I really love this thread and photography in general.

I am starting to think that replies that do not offer anything other than an opinion are not worth reading.

I hope future posters will keep in mind that they run the risk of calling themselves to 2 mods attention ......................... and that isn't positive attention.

I think, the best camera would be that can long lastly remain with you in the hour of need and for this the battery backup matters a lot. I found Canon better than others in this regard.

If I understood properly you are not professional but want to make professionally-looking shots. I don't advise you to buy a professional camera. Start with amateur one. It will be easier for you but more then enough to learn essentials. Good variants are Canon IOS 700D or even SONY alpha 58 with Kit lens.
