Check inside the options of your camera for settings to use during different times... I know my camera has: Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Soft Snap, Landscape, Beach, Snow, Fireworks, High-speed Shutter, Candle, Magnifying Glass

can you use it to make other shots look messed up and cool? or does it only help with candles..

If you want to photograph fireworks, always use a tripod as you should do with any long exposure photo. I use exposures of anything up to 4 seconds. If you are using a film camera, normally use up to an 8 second exposure at an f8 aperture (100 speed film)
