thanks you. i spent a bit of time selecting pics so there would all fit together nicely. does look much better than before and when you open them up to full size they are all the same.

I have tried putting text in the box as you described but nothing is coming up when you open the picture. i will keep at it. would be good if a could add a description about eash picture

I read a recent comparison regarding tools to compress images. It appears that Puny (online available) does the best job at .jpg files.

99% of the time I find people aren't clearing their cache properly. Cache is great, but it can also be the reason why things just don't appear right to them haha

The best optimization for pictures depend on type of code. For standart CSS code i am recomend not more 1000px for big preview. If you use adaptive code you can use size more that 1000px.

There is a wordpress plugin called EWWW image optimizer. If you are using wordpress it works great. I have used this on my own website built on wordpress.

first of all the image name should be properly written. like dsc-0001.jpg should not be there. then alt tag should be properly used.

You can automate with the script image processer in photoshop. Great for large batches of images. Also if you've got a responsive site you can choose different image sizes depending on the size of the screen viewing your website.
