It finally got warm enough outside that I decided to go hang out in the backyard and take some pix.

Here are two of the original color versions. After some tweaking in Adobe Lightroom, I think I like them better.

BTW Adove Lightroom is on the cheap now, get it if you can. It's great!

I am a huge fan of black and white photos, so I really enjoyed seeing these. My favorites are the wood pieces, but I really liked the mushroom in black and white too.

I'm using the kit lens that came with the body. 18mm-70mm.

You'll read lots of people complaining about the kit lenses that come with the body, but whine as they will, I'm of those types that's thankful for what I have ;P

I would have never guessed that was the kit lens. Just goes to show you that a huge part of awesome images is the person behind the camera.

To be honest I wouldn't have been able to tell the difference between kit or otherwise. No doubt the pro-studio/nature photographers can. *shrug*

Nice stuff, you seem to be doing quite a bit of shooting! Just gonna chime in on the optics part of the discussion.

Higher grade glass generally lets you shoot in conditions where kits lenses would not produce comparable results. Otherwise, it's just as good for everyday photography. There would be no comparison if you has the Zeiss 21mmD vs. a kit lens and had light blasting into the glass.

On skill...

I know people who do have the expensive equipment, and no skill....and don't have the eye to see that what they produce is mediocre at best. As Cricket said, here's so much to be said about the person behind the camera.

On the Zeiss comparison. What would they be? I mean, assuming I shot all those above with both the kit and a comparable Zeiss lens, what would be the major difference(s) in the two images be? Same stop, dof and everything else. Just different lens.
