I like to take pictures to remember days out and stuff. I love how differently you start to see places once you have a cam in your hand. You are always looking for that special shot and become a lot more aware of your surroundings. Stuff you wouldn't normally notice becomes very apparent. I just love the fact that I can get a permanent reminder of special times or great things that occur. Photography has always fascinated me, so it's no surprise I enjoy it so much.

I remember being fascinated by photographers when I was a very young girl. I wanted to know how they saw things that I had never even noticed. Photography is an escape for me. When I have a camera in my hands, everything except the shot in front of me, ceases to exist.

I started taking pictures because of my artwork. It was purely utilitarian. I was doing makeup fx back then so I needed to have a camera (35mm and polaroid) to take consistency shots and wips.
It wasn't until I got a job at a lab that I began coming across 'real' photographers and seeing the progression of their work from role after role of film. Models, products, whatever... There is this... 'way'... of taking pictures of the 'mundane' or the 'everyday' and giving it that artistic look that I enjoy the most. That got me hooked. For a few years anyways. Then my camera broke and I moved away from the film industry so those days just faded away.
It's been a while since I've done any kind of setup shoots or gone all out to conceptualize anything for a shot but with my new camera, I'm hoping I'll get reenergized with that vigor for framing up and lighting and makeup...
Other than that, I just bought my camera for web work and shooting my art

I started out taking pictures of my kids. Then moved on to nature shots... I guess I just fell in love with the fact that I could freeze a moment in time forever. I also like to take the pictures and see if I can manipulate them into a different piece of art.

It was just a hobby, now, I feel I need to know more about taking pictures and to be more professional.

I kept forgetting about all the strange things I saw on roadtrips and just roaming about. When trying to describe something - like a 50 foot high sculpture of scrambled eggs - to other people I just could not do it justice. So I started carrying a camera with me to capture those things. Then people starting believing my stories. This world has a lot of strange things in it that defy verbal explanation.
Another strange thing: before digital photography I took and developed loads of pictures a year. I have boxes of the glossy finished things sitting around somewhere. Dusty memories. But since I've gone digital I find that I snap pictures and just let them sit on my hard drive. I don't print them out, put them into albums, or show them to other people (apart from the very few I put on websites). But now when I take the digital camera out I take six times the pictures I used to, for obvious reasons, and I capture far more minutae then I used to as well. When I scroll through the photos I now wonder "why did I take a picture of that??!" far more often than in the analog days.

I don't know why I started, I think it looked like a nice way to understand being a good Art Director better. I thought to myself, "How can I tell this photographer what shot I need if I don't even know what he's doing." So, I went on a 1-year picture taking experience, and here I am.

I like to take pictures becuase for me, its like another form of creative art. I can draw alright, not great, but photography really brings the art out in you. It's hard to explain, it's just a feeling of weirdness =D

I take pictures to help remember days out, but also now that I am getting into it to record moments in time and capture images that might not otherwise be seen by most people. You can see some of mine on my homepage in the profile ;-)

For records and I can share photos esp digital ones with my family and friends. I could easily send digital photos via email to others.
