Which camera I should buy?

Canon EOS 40D or Nikon D80

Canon EOS 40D IMO.

I am using Canon 400D now and having a target to buy Canon EOS 40D soon

Depends on which lenses you have.

Really though, both have somewhat different lenses, and upgrade routes, those are the first things I would consider. The mid-level DSLR technology isn't all that different between cameras among the well known brands. (Sony, Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Sigma)

One might have better ISO performance, one might have better AF accuracy, one might have a better layout to the camera dials and menus, one might have better DR, one might have more megapixels, one might have a better build quality, etc.

But, since you ask....I'll throw my vote in for the Canon since I use Canon.
