I've got a Canon EOS 400D. It's a great camera but it doesn't take movie clips and it's not the cheapest. I'd recommend it anyday, if you're prepared to learn how to use it properly.

I'm a Nikon D70 and D200 owner/user. I'd advise you the D70.

The cannon powershot line at less than $200 would be a good point and shoot with optical zoom. My wife had no trouble learning to use hers.

I really like Cannon's but I have had a Sony for the last couple years that has been a great camera. I have put that little camera through hell!!!
