[Spring] Bleeding Hearts Shots

I was in the yard yesterday relaxing and noticed the Bleeding Hearts were coming up. I went and took a look at them and... well... I was compelled.

Love dicentra, brilliant pictures Licky.

You know if you turn one of the flowers upside down it is suppose to look like a lady wearing one of those old fashioned 1800 c dresses. A bit anyway.

I used my only lens, 18-70mm.

I cut a switch from the bush and brought it indoors to get more control over the lighting and the setup. I clamped it in a light box and alternated between a single and two spots. Moving them around to bounce light when needed and placed a black card behind the flowers to get them to pop.

The settings where:

#1: ISO 100 50mm f13 3.2sec exposure
#2: ISO 200 60mm f22 1.6sec exposure
#3: ISO 200 60mm f22 1.6sec exposure
#4: ISO 200 60mm f10 1/2sec exposure

Developed in Lightroom 1.4

Umm, long exposure time = excellent detail!

I’ve been using Paint Shop Pro for years. Occasionally I looked into Photoshop but because it is so expensive I just sighed and went back to what I had. They have a 2.0 free in beta until August… I have to say I’m tempted to give it a whirl after seeing the results and half afraid I’ll love it and be devastated if I can’t have it! Is it really worth the extra bucks for someone who is more than a casual user?

When I looked up Lightroom the literature mentioned that it is for RAW format, is that the format you used?

Okay, done picking your brain – for now ;-)

Ya for this kind of shooting, RAW is the way to go.

As for Photoshop... For casual use, naw, it's probably not worth the money and learning curve. I've no doubt PSP is more than adequate enough. If you wan't opinions from those who've used both (because I've never used PSP) feel free to ask this in the Graphics Forum, you'll get some good insight there (:
