I have a question regarding all of these directories listed by folks above. Is there any indication whether these directories are safe or not? Isn't it true that Google black balls your site if you register it on certain directories? How can one tell the difference??

I cant see this being true, if it was you would be able to send your competitors details to a site and try bring them down like that. not really ethical so i ont think google would activly "punish" your site.
