The Value of a Domain?

How do you determine the value of a domain? Do you use specific methods or tools? Or, does it simply come down to how much someone is willing to pay to own it?

Think this is more applicable than what ever tools you use to come up with a price.

If buying a domain, I'd look at the potential of recovering the cost and set my limit.

If selling a domain, I'd look at my previous investments (time and money) and what I think the potential revenues in the future would be lost by selling the domain name.

Balancing act between want, budget and surcoming to spur of the moment decisions.

As in all things bought and sold, the free market determines the final value.

I feel no tool can ever determine a domain value. We humans need to think the potential of the domain name based on the popularity, search potential etc.

Value of domain is often over estimated, all pro reseller price tags are very high, who really are willing to pay this much? Same thing with websites or online stores, buyer don't care what you invested, if you are lucky they just want to pay a price tag of 1 year of gross revenues.

I think no tool can estimate a domain value. We need to consider the potential value of the domain. It usually reflects through the name, popularity and search potential etc.
