What makes a domain name worth money?

A domain is worth money of someone wants it. Unfortunately, there is no way of predicting whether or not a domain will sell or not.

There are so many things that come into play with domain name values.

Some things that I notice generally help the value include:

.com is normally better
shorter is normally better
no hyphens & numbers is normally better
obvious uses for a domain are a plus
inbound links or a well developed website attached can up the value nicely.
brandability / memorability of certain domains adds to value
ease of saying a domain helps.

yeah i agree wid Loridori4, along with the relevance and length of the domain, its also very important that it is marketed well....so find a gud (or maybe an avg domain) n get a reliable SEO provider n u should b gud to go

I agree that the domain name should get traffic without a lot of work. It should be short, contain key words used a lot in searches, be related to the content and easy to remember. Its true that ebay is succussful but I would guess it took a lot of work to make it what it is today.

What I've learned so far about it at school is that you have to keep it under 40 characters and make sure it's not difficult to say out loud. It might sound stupid, but if people don't HAVE to bookmark a domain in order to be able to gain access to it, the more likely they are to actually bookmark the site... and recommend it to new people.

Actually you can have up to 63 but in this case and I agree with you the sense of memorable domain name
