Which is better?

For SEO purposes, which is the better domain name? greenwidgetsonline.net or green-widgets-online.com?

Many advance thanks accompanied with much bowing and hat doffing.

Both domain name are good but the disadvantage of the first one is, it's quiet hard to remember the first domain name.

I think you should prefer the domain name without hyphen, also try out using few suggestion tools to sort out few more good option for you.

So, .com with hyphens trumps .net without hyphens?

This is a question that comes back over and over again since almost the beginning of Google.

Search Engines will read all the words with or without hyphens. In some cases, it can help like : expertseo could be read as experts eo. In this case, a hyphen might be a good idea.
However, it won't really matter SEO wise. I would therefore go with the one without hypen because it is easier to remember for users.

I hope this helps.

Thank one and all for the comments. Thank you Julien for the specifics. So there's really no advantage between .net or .com either way? In other words it's not worth it to pay the price of a harder to remember hyphenated URL just so it can end in .com?

Definitely the one with the hyphens. It's easier to read and remember.

Choose your domain name based on what is best for your users. The search engines will see the keywords in your domain name either way. Aside from country specific domain name extensions, the search engines do not favor certain domain extensions over others. You can get just as good rankings with .net as you can with a .net

It will be better if this is a poll...

Anyway, I guess I can pick either of the two. It wouldn't matter at all. But if I have to choose only one, I'll go with the first one. Much easier to type and remember.

Both are good in terms of SEO. I suppose that you need to investigate the situation from the memorable options for both domain names.

In this case to my mind hyphens make domain awkward, so greenwidgetsonline.net is better.

There are no advantages at all to have a .com / .net / .org etc...

I think for users, the simpler the better. I would personally go with no hyphens and .com

But SEO wise, it doesn't make a difference so I guess it's up to you.
Making a poll is a good suggestion.

Call 10 of your friends/family and ask them to write down an address. Tell the hyphen one to 5 and the non-hyphen to another 5. See what works the best.
