Key word in domian name?
HI v7n,
What's better having key words in your domain name, eg www.domain-name.com, or www.domainname.com?
or does it make much difference at all if you have your site with great SEO?
Thanks
Mick Shaw

I think it doesn't make any difference. Based on your example, I'll go for the domain name without hyphen but of course there is always an exception. Example, my keywords are "best" and "top10" and if I'm going to construct my domain name like this -> "besttopten.com"... it will looks quite confusing because of the double "t" but if I'm going to put it this way -> "best-top10.com" personally, it looks good for me and I can remember it easily.

as far as Google is concerned, does hyphen count as a letter? no, but it shows where 2 words separate.
helloscar??
is it hell-oscar or hello-scar?
so beware of that 1;
anyway depends on your keywords as shown above and beyond + for users hyphen is not user-friendly.

If both are available you should go with the second one (without hyphen).

Thanks for pointing this little trap out to me! It's so obvious yet so simple to miss!

It's practically difficult to find exact match of keywords because most of the potential domain name has been already taken.

yes,
it is very hard to find good domain names nowadays; many of the good ones are parked and just sitting there, what a waste.
you have to be creative to get a good domain name, i guess.

 Hello Friends,
First one is Search Engine friendly.Second one is User friendly. Both are useful in same place.

I know a bit on seo and according to me, its better to stay as close as possible to our objective/product[no hyphens better].

I used to think it wouldn't make any difference until I saw a thread on some other forum. According to Google http://www.google.com/support/webmas...29&ctx=sibling, It is better for them if you use Hyphens to separate your URL terms. Then why shouldn't it be the same case for domain names too?

hyphens make domains look cheap in my opinion. As a search engine sees it , I do not think there is much difference.
non hyphen is better in many ways , as it does not look spammy & looks more professional.

Personally we find no use of having hyphenated domain names, to us as a business, the best type of domain we can register is one that is easy to remember and more importantly, brandable.
For example, our quit smoking website, http://www.quittingadvantage.com its much easier for a site visitor to remember that domain name than it would be for them to remember something like help-to-quit-smoking.com.

User friendly as far as a domain is always more important than search engine friendly. You can steer the search engines in the right direction with your keywords, title tags, and content. Drop the dash and appeal to your visitors.

No difference but domains with hyphens are difficult to be remembered.
