Value of...?
Not exactly a domain name question, but sort of...
I've had the idea of creating a Zoo Resource site for quite a while (my fiancée and I are big animal/zoo fans)... anyways, I came a cross [www . zooweb . com] and it's sort of the same idea that I had, on;y it's not been done well, nor has it been updated or kept up for more than 2 years... What do you think the site is worth? Should I offer to buy it, or just get another domain, and start from scratch?

I'd say at least 500, as it's PR 6, but none of the links work so the content is pretty much worthless, from a user's point of view, unless you can fix that redirect script.

I wouldn't really use the content much, persae, maybe some... but it hardly has any backlinks (81, I think), and the PR 6 just comes from a couple old sites... I'd rebuild most of the content & links, etc in there...

I'd say in the range of 500 to 1000, there is still some usefull content and links are still links, it all depends on what there willing to sell it for, you might find they would like to dump it for 100$ or even hold out for 2kto 10k, email and ask, or make an offer and see if they reply back.

Yeah, that's what I've done... just waiting to hear back, now. I just think the domain is a good one - better than any I could pick up now... I'll create a way better site and do better SEO.

OK, I've heard back from the guys who own it, and they told me to make them an offer... suggestions? Should I ask for more info from them? Can a couple of you take a look at the site and maybe appraise it for me?

It depends what your budget is, but I truthfully think the site was worth more, but has decreased in value as they have let it die down.
I'd offer him $700, or somewhere around that, if he really wants to sell it he might come right out and ask for more, I think the owner just doesnt know what its worth.
But to be fair to the already loaded content and PR 6, I'd say offer any where from $500 to $1000 like my first value was.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well... it's own by a web design guy/company - he used to have zooweb . net as well that directed to it, but he's selling off zooweb . net - I'd much rather have the .com version. I would plan on redoing the website, but maybe keeping some of the info there already... I don't really have a budget for it. Do you think I'd just be better off starting from scratch with a different domain name? I wouldn't really want to spend more than $500, though... I just want to make sure others would think that a reasonable offer... any other opinions/suggestions?

Hey, offering $500 for a website that hasnt been updated and probably doesnt get much traffic any more is ok. Its not like offering $400 for v7n like someone did :-p. Just try it, at least you can never say you didnt try.

Judging on that, It gets about 50-70 uniques per day tops.
PR6's are fairly easy to get now unless they change the algo.
I'd say no more then $500
They probably have everything linked well, just something is wrong with their script, hence the 404...
I think anything up to $500 would be fine, but no low-ball offers you know.
And I do like the design. I wouldn't see why you'd want to scrap it!

Since he doesn't have a mailing list, and doesn't sell anything, his only revenue seems to be from the banner ads.
See if you can find out approximately how much he makes from ads in a year, (e.g. by joining the network he uses and see what it costs to advertise and what the averge click through rate is and what publishers get paid.) them multiply that number by four.

I offered him $400... still waiting for a reply... thanks for the advice... I'll keep you all updated.
As for the design, you're right Pimp, the design is pretty decent... I may just play with it a bit.

I'm sure you can market it good. Just don't over do the banners, I hate going to info sites that you have to pick through the ads just to find the content.

Yeah... I'll keep it pretty clean. I might end up just using adsense or something... haven't heard back from him yet, though.

I heard back from the guy... he wants a crazy amount of money for it, so I guess I'll have to start from scratch... what do you think of the domain zooseek.com?

I wanted zoofind.com, but it's taken... the I got the "seek" idea from 7seek. You think zooseek.com will work? I already own zooforums.com as well... I could probably intermingle the 2 sites together.
