Network Solutions

If you think you'll ever want to transfer a domain name, my advice is not to use Network Solutions as a registrar.

I have been trying for over a week to transfer a domain away from them. After negotiating the ridiculous control panel which tries to talk you out of the transfer at every screen, my problems were just getting started.

The confirmation email pointed to a URL which didn't work. I opened a trouble ticket and got the following reply: "The URL is accessible. This ticket is now closed".

Nice. They are apparently so good they don't even need to check with me before closing the ticket. So I have to open a new ticket saying "No, the URL is *not* accessible".

Still no joy, so I rung them (a toll call from New Zealand). They told me that they are not the registrar for this domain and I need to contact escrow.com. "Goodbye and have a great day", the guy said. Well that confused me so I did all the whois stuff and rung them back. "Sorry sir" he said, "I must have got the spelling wrong". That's odd, since it took me five minutes to check the spelling with him in the previous call.

Anyway, he couldn't figure out what's happening so my problem was escalated to engineering support. "They will contact you very soon" he said.

Three days later and I have still heard nothing.

Avoid Network Solutions if you want to be in control of your own domains.

I have heard lots of bad things about them. They are expensive to use too.

Still nothing from engineering support, so I contacted them again. They told me a new confirmation request had been sent to the registrant email address. I replied that I had not received this email. They replied and said it would take 24 hours for the email to reach me (!?!). The next day, still having received no confirmation email, I got another email saying that the transfer request has been cancelled because I did not reply to the confirmation email.

What else do you expect? Poor service and high prices are what being a monopolist is all about.

Everyone likes to complain about ICANN, but just imagine the domain registration hell we would be living in if ICANN had not been created to break up N$'s monopoly.

If it is any consolation to you, it used to be much worse. There was a time when they didn't even have a control panel.

Yep, I have the same expeirience as you, dave. I suffered many frustrations in contacting them to solve a little problem. Dame, they totally sucks. They story goes like this: I found some domains were in Redemption Period, so I phoned them to redeem them(of course the domain is not mine). They asked for my credit card info to process the redemption, I gave them, after 1 min or so, he says "the process done successfully and it will be active after 24 hours." I was happy and hanged up the phone. I checked whois info the other day and it's really active, but whois info does not show me. Then I remembered I forgot to tell him I'm not the registrant nor the admin, but he didn't ask for it when I requested the redemption. Then trouble started. I emailed the support, after 24 hours, I received a reply saying your request cant be done through email. That means I should call. Then I phoned them immediately to tell them my case and it seemed he did not understand nor accept my request, I told him I could offer my credit card info with which I used to do the redemption. But he told me you can submit an inner account domain transfer request. What??? That means only if the owner confirms the request can I have the domains under my account. I tried to explain to him, but received the same reply. Disappointed,I hang up and submited the request, after 7 days' long waiting, I saw the request failed because the primary contact didn't confirm it. Then I phoned them again but also received the same reply. I was very very angry and also very helpless on this matter these days. Then I decided to give up. I never contact them till now nor will I use their service. You know the redemption fee is $150/domain, that means I pay $600 for nothing. OK, I had enough of network solutions. Totally sucks!!! So my advice is that if you don't like to have the troubles like me, keep far away from Network solutions! They really suck!!! Thanks. huh...
