Are all available domains seen everywhere?

I have been looking over the GoDaddy domains, buy nows, auctions, offers, etc. My first reaction to some of the buy now prices was total shock as I have many domains that are parked that are better than what are listed in many cases. Good solid domains relevant to the topic, easy to remember, type etc. then I see they got no bids for them so it appears moot, but what would be cool is to see what domains recently sold for somewhere, now that might have some value?
There is so much that goes into a domain name.
Expired? New? History? Previous owners actions? Penalized? Keyword ladden (Often debated), Hyphens? (seo debates there too), and of coarse cost.

I am on the fence now as I spotted some killer ones for my need and meeting my criteria that are new but nothing previously registered that are now available.
I am also debating just Googeling terms and found a few, "For Sale" and wonder if they are worth researching.

Anyone have this down to a science?
A checklist criteria type system of some type they would be so kind as to share?
Thanks
Frank

Lightbulb Found what appears to be a good thread on buying expired domains

I found one persons account of what they experienced while going after an expired domain name that appears to be pretty accurate at least at time of authoring 3-05, and has a good deal of tips and info.
I sure did learn a lot about the whole process.
Maybe half the day was not wasted...lol

Hopefully that link will work and help some others out on the subject.
The bottom line and what I am off to next is,
It would seem that if a domain expires, the registar has first crack at offering it for sale despite what would appear to be a breach of ICANN policy.
The info. may be outdated 3-05, but I am going to try to see what I can find by going to the major registers, Network solutions, (Cringe) and GoDaddy.
I have not found GoDaddy to be too promising at this point as they are listing many domains at very high prices from what I found so far.
hth?

I wish I could suggest you go through a broker. But to be honest, most brokers are resellers as well and have their own portfolio. So with that you will pay the full price going through them. I know many who do a whois and contact people personally in hopes they have no idea of the domain trend and sell something real cheap thinking they are doing good with the low offer they get. This is a daily job for some, and it's real hard to catch a lucky grab these days. Theres also a big market for typo names.. Adsense earnings can hit high numbers daily for them. Chances are, if your looking for a good name and want to contact an owner... they have probably been contacted already by numerous people looking for that lucky grab.

Godaddy doesnt make those prices, they offer to put them up for the owners. And the owners set the prices.
Godaddy also backorders names, I paid 18$ to backorder from them once a long time ago. I never got the name, and even if they did have a chance.. I would have ended up in an auction with several others. Read the smallprint before making payment.

I've found one that I want REALY bad. I've tried to contact them a few times already to no avail... argh!!

the other one is www.dustin.com.....

but my key one............. I'm going to make them a money offer next week I think. it's one of those damn domain companies that buy up a ton of them. If I could just get a hold of a human I think I could pick it up for like $60. It's a GREAT domain IMO.

Dustin wont sell dustin.com

He makes it very clear in the "about" page.

Dustin.com in the collectors marketplace would probably fetch about 5k and no less. Its a nothing page and it still holds a PR3.

I looked up a site on WHOIS to find out who the owner was. it gave me a name but no contact info. the site hasn't been used for anything real in years. it's basically empty now with only a "contact" email in the front center.

Anyone ever bought a page like that before? the domain is a cool one... but Don't know how to contact them.

there is that company through namesecure that will make an offer for you for $19+5%, min $100 offer.

anyone done that before?
