I think the co.cc thing is so silly. I don't know how I feel about the extension sites.
IMHO.

Though if one has the right keywords, one can make oneself a ton of $$$.

Well, you could gift kids a .co.cc and they wouldn't even know the difference
Then they can start blogging on it and if the kid gets more than 100 visitors per day, buy him a real domain name and become a VC
