Redemption Period Domain Rights
Hello - my brother is currently having an issue with one of his domain names (through a popular registrar for that matter, at least I'm pretty sure they are a popular one). I am going to refrain from posting the name, because I do not want to unjustly bash a registrar when there may not even be any wrongdoing on their part.
His domain expired on July 23, 2009...and it is STILL in redemption period (that's 2 months already). Whenever he asks about renewing it, they ask for nearly $150 in various fees (I forget the exact dollar amount) and my brother refuses to pay it. It is not a high quality domain or anything (only he would have a use for it) but he would still like to keep it.
I've always heard of redemption period being 30 days and the domain is released...based on the emails that I have read I get the impression that they may be holding onto the domain longer just to get him to pay the fees (then again I could be looking too far into it).
Anyone have a domain name in redemption period for 60 days or longer?!? Is that legal?
