Registering a domain name

Say you know that that a lot of people search for the term 'white paper' and obviously the domain name has gone.

You also know that the term 'white paper uk' is available.

The term 'white paper uk' isn't really a highly searched phrase but I was thinking that as it had the search term 'white paper' in it, it may carry a bit of weight.

Would it be a good idea to register the domain name www.white-paper-uk.co.uk or www.white_paper_uk.co.uk or www.whitepaper-uk.co.uk?

Just wondering which would do well on search engines.

BTW - The domain name I am thinking of isn't about paper.

I have asked this somewhere else but it seems like nobody was in the mood for giving advice there. Either that or they didn't know.

Keyword domains (with hyphens) aren't as valuable with search engines as they once were. Also, underscores are invalid characters in domains, so that strikes out the second domain.

So it's really a case of how the term is searched for: is it "whitepaper" or "white paper" that should make your decision for you.

Thanks Fabulous Girl,

The way people are searching for this is "white paper" (with the space).

This being the case, I guess that getting www.white-paper.co.uk etc should do the trick.

I reckon that www.whitepaperuk.co.uk should also cover it as the two most important keywords are there at the begining.

There sure as hell is going to be a lot of white paper flying around pretty soon.

I would not register a name with space thingie. Keep thinking about it until you come up with the word you want and maybe another added to it to bring out the theme or product your offering.
