7 yr old Domain Name Stolen
Hi Everyone
I am new in town and while I was looking for something else I found your "domain" forum.... I owned a domain name for 7 or more years and about Christmas time I found I know longer owned it. It was bought/sold April 30th, 2004. I was never notified of the expiration either by email or snail mail AND I paid for it to be parked through the fall of 2004!
I filed a report/charges with verisign (?) whoever own internic.net, but of course did not get a reply.
Anyone know of any (cheap) recourse I may have? I have thousands of links to that site, which has killed my revenue. ShipSStore.com was parked and pointing to AllNautical.com. It now has nothing to do with nautical anything... It's a generic search engine.
Thanks in advance!

That sucks!
Live and learn I guess. I don't think there's anything you can do. It wasn't really "stolen".

yeah, hate to say it but it is your own fault. You have to keep up with domain re-registering. Most decent registering services will send you a notice.
I have been with www.123cheapdomains.com for over 3 years now. They send a notice at 90,60,30,5,1 days before it expires, then they hold it for an additional 30 days i believe in case you just somehow missed it so you can still reregister it, although after it expires i think it cost a little more.

i like how 123cheapdomains does it, i have everything under one account(which was nice when i had 4+ domains) that way it is just one login to remember. They are great at sending notices too so that helps.

That's unfortunate but it's not really the responsibility of the registrar to notify you. Hey it's set to expire april 30 2005. Maybe you can get it back. Other than that there isn't much you can do. Because, you don't really ever own the domain name. You just rent it from the the registrar. Why else would there be an annual fee?

I like godaddy myself... I got all my domains there and I can turn on automatic reregister and it reminds me like 5 times before the expiration date that its gonna reregister and if i don't do anything there's a charge on my card the day its supposed to expire ^_^ I think it is simple, and you know I like to KISS

Why? researcher forgot to renew the domain name. Some other company took advantage of buying a domain name that had some extablished traffic and links to it. The new owner did nothing wrong. Is it their fault that the original owner was not responsible enought to know when their domain name was about to expire? If you don't pay your rent, you will eventually get kicked out of your apartment and someone else will eventually move in. Not much different here.
I do find interesting that researcher has not replied back.

Its not that interesting, he hasn't been active since about 20 minutes after he made the thread! It's also his only post.

This is where you can get more information about disputing the domain name ownership. Very doubtful that you will get it back though.

If you can prove with some form of last statement of when it expires
you can hold them responable, other wise it may have expired and as
for you not getting a email informing you may be your fault also as your email account could have been at it's max
when they sent out the emails to inform you. and BOUNCED.
Whithout the last statement your scewed, sounds cold but end of story if so.
But I am sorry to hear about your missfortune.
