how much cost to transfer domain?

Hi I have a domain registered and now I need host and here is my question:

If you want to transfer a domain from a registrar , to a hosting company isnt that free of charge ( you have a registered domain after all) ? , because I met these guys from http://properplace.org and they want to charge me the same price as it is for the domain registration ?!?
How is that possible ? I paid once for a name and than I have to pay one more time to have the domain transfered ! Is that normal ?

You should never transfer a domain to the host, then they control it and can keep it, don't do that. And yes it's normal to pay for hosting but you shouldn't have to transfer the domain, EVER. Just update the DNS and if they don't support that, find another host. Transferring is free if it's within the same registrar to another user, or else you usually have to pay another year at the new place to transfer it.

Colleen makes great points on NOT transferring to the host.

If you feel the need to transfer, do it to another registrar, not to a hosting company. Most, like GoDaddy, will do the transfer at a lower cost than a new registration, but then add on a full year to the expiry.

If you don't want to transfer at all, just follow Colleen's advice and merely change the nameserver information.

I recently sold a customer his domain back for $100.

He let it expire and said he didn't want it, so I re-regged it to use it and never got around to it. He messaged me a few months later and wanted to use it again.

Worked out for both of us.

Transfer it to enom or namecheap - you pay a years reg.
