what do you think this domain is worth?

I want to buy dalmatians.com.

I've waited a long time and I've never posted that anywhere, but I haven't been able to get a hold of the owner and it's registered for another year +.

I sent him a hand written letter using his WHOIS info. We'll see if it pans out.

Any idea what it's actually worth though? I don't want to insult him, or pay too much............ should I actually reach him.

Probably affiliate programs. Possibly meds... probably more likely to get into dog related items though. There is a lot available out there in that industry. If you were focusing on dal-only stuff you could go dog meds, + collars, toys, foods (Dalmatians should have a somewhat-special diet) plus with dals there are a lot of other items (think disney).

wouldn't ever be a million dollar site. But could be fun and at a few bucks a month. I think more than anything I probably just want it more and more because I can't get it...

I think it would be worth a good buck, it's easy to remember. Might be expensive to purchase from owner though

yeah I think you are right. It's disapointing to see such a good name go to waste. Google ranks it #4 for it's keyword. geesh.

I would offer $500 to start and see what his counter offer is.
The domain probably gets a fair amount of traffic even undeveloped.

Since this is a generic "type-in" domain it could very well go into the mid $xxxx range.

Is it worth it? Maybe, depending on what you do with it. Turn it into an authority site about dalmations, with a forum and links/ads of top AKC breeders and you would have a winner. People are VERY passionate about their dogs and favorite breeds and love to chat about it.

I would pay up to $2000 or so without seeing stats, more with concrete traffic details. Remember though, generics will always receive traffic without advertising or marketing, so you pay a premium for them. The good thing is the current owner is not monetizing the domain right now. I've seen people pay up to 60 months revenue for parked, undeveloped type-ins.

I guess the typo gets more traffic than the actual spelling.

check this out... on overture, search for "dalmation" gives you the correct spelling, but higher traffic;
