Because the visitors are more for these type of sites and content also unique and these sites having daily or weekly updates. So that a backlink from these sites will worth more effective to our site.

You can buy .edu domains from a regular domain seller like Godaddy or namecheap.
They aren't soley reserved for educational institutions.
I think the only domain you can't get is a .gov domain.

Why exactly you would want to own an .edu domain. This will open you a lot of work. Many people will start spamming your website with tons of comments...

First time I heard this, how true is it? In my country, to purchase an edu domain, the person must show education license.
For those who are intent to buy education link, they can try to make a sponsorship.

Google never gives more value to backlinks from .edu sites. So why you are worrying about it.

That was not the question, the question was how to buy them? everyone has thier own opinions on what works in google and what doesnt. In the past when i have purchased backlinks from .edu domains my sites have always been within the top 5 results on the first page of google and i noramlly get a good return on investment.
Sorry for sounding rude but your answer was irrelevant to this thread

.gov domains:
Quote:
The domain name gov is a sponsored top-level domain (sTLD) in the Domain Name System of the Internet. The name is derived from government, indicating its restricted use by government entities in the United States. The gov domain is administered by the General Services Administration (GSA), an independent agency of the United States federal government.

.edu domains:

Only postsecondary institutions that are institutionally accredited by an agency on the U.S. Department of Education's list of Nationally Recognized Accrediting Agencies (see recognized accrediting bodies) may obtain an Internet name in the .edu domain.

.edu Domain Registration and Administration
Now with those 2 bits of information, do you not think that those who advertise selling links on these sites are people with spam profiles, comments and/or articles on these sites? If it's not the government agency or postsecondary institute you are dealing with directly, I would suspect it is as I have suggested.

This is the answer.
You will have to prove you are an educational organisation before you can register one of these.
I'm guessing there would be an awful lot of paperwork involved as well!

I am not very sure the exact procedure but long time ago, I asked GoDaddy if it it possible to buy domains with .edu and they said yes I can buy. So your best bet is to contact GoDaddy for further information.
